The criminal trial of Mercedes Carrera and her husband on multiple child sex abuse charges, which was scheduled to begin Monday, July 17, has been postponed again.
A pretrial hearing in the case was held a year ago and a jury trial start date of October 3, 2022 was agreed upon. Since then, however, the trial date has been canceled and postponed numerous times.
Carrera and her husband Jason Whitney were arrested following a police raid at their Cucamonga Ranch home on February 1, 2019.
By the new pretrial date, they will be in the county jail awaiting trial for four and a half years, initially without bail and later, after they liquidated their assets and had no source of income due to their incarceration, with bail set at $2 million each.
Earlier this month, two different YouTube channels published audio recordings purported to be recent interviews with Carrera, recorded over the phone from the West Valley Correctional Center.
During these interviews, Carrera expresses frustration with the conditions of her incarceration and the manner in which her case was handled by the arresting officers, and questions some of the decisions made by her own attorney, who was appointed for her by the state.
